The upcoming General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR),will come into force from May 25th, 2018, with the express purpose of protecting EU citizens and giving them control over
personal data through a unified set of standards.
And it seems that, because this is EU legislation, many British firms are choosing to ignore it. In fact, it’s been reported that 25% of UK companies have given up on GDPR preparations, as
they believe it won’t apply to them post-Brexit. Wrong. All firms and organisations that deal with EU citizens must comply with GDPR, regardless of location. So, whether you’re based in London, Paris or Timbuktu – you must comply, with huge fines ready for those who transgress. But GDPR is a long and complex set of regulations, which will take a lot of sifting through to fully understand.
